Part Time Drayman/woman

Cross Borders Brewing

Salary: £13 an hour

Closing date: Friday June 28th, 2024

Job Description

A brewery whose origins trace back to an illicit biscuit cartel run by our two founders in primary school. Cross Borders is the result of years of friendship, hard work, and a refusal to grow up. Based in leafy Midlothian we brew braw beer you’ll want to drink again and again.

Our range of cask and keg products have received numerous awards over the years and we have expanded brewing capacity three times since opening 8 years ago. We now have three pubs within the group as well as an onsite brewery taproom so understandably, the majority of our liquid goes into our own estate. However, we have exciting plans afoot to re-enter the packaged beer market with a new range of small batch bottled beers in the very near future, so now is a really exciting time to join the business.

We are looking for a part-time Drayman/woman to get our brilliant beers to our own sites and also to our many other customers predominantly in and around the Edinburgh area every week. We need someone with experience of driving a light goods vehicle and who enjoys the art of driving and also interacting with customers – trust us, no-one likes a grumpy drayman complaining about the traffic, the weather, the tourists – you get the picture.

We have a lovely clean and modern delivery van (you won’t believe how clean the interior is). It has all the mod cons – air con that works, reversing sensors, a reversing camera and even a delightful beeping noise when you’re in reverse!

We’d really like to keep the van as tidy and dent free as it currently is so a full clean driving licence is essential. Experience with a forklift would be a lovely added bonus.

Initially the role will be for 2 days a week, approx. 16hrs, but as we continue to develop our business, there may well be opportunity to expand on this.

We think of what we do as” Graft Beer”, so, you’ll need to be physically fit, have experience with appropriate safe manual handling techniques and not be shy of a bit of hard work to succeed in the role. You’ll regularly be required to move 50KG kegs in and out of the van and into pub cellars, this is not an Amazon delivery type role.

You’ll also need to be comfortable working autonomously for a good part of your day – we put a lot of trust and faith into our people and we believe that gets better results.
