Congratulations and Farewell to Business Gateway Midlothian Adviser Robbie Broomfield
We are sorry to see our Business Gateway Midlothian Business Adviser, Robbie Broomfield head-off to pastures new so we couldn’t let him go without saying a huge thank you and congratulations!
Midlothian Council’s Economic Development Manager, Annie Watt said, ‘since joining the Midlothian Council’s Economic Development Service in December 2020, Robbie has been great colleague and a vital member of our team. He has supported local businesses through every stage of their journey and been a trusted sounding board for new ideas. His knowledge, approachability, and passion for helping entrepreneurs, businesses and social enterprises have made a real and lasting impact in Midlothian.’
Robbie’s local impact

The Ventures Lab
After almost five years of championing businesses in Midlothian, Robbie is now taking on an exciting new role as Director of Venture Growth Services at The Challenges Group. While we’re sad to see Robbie leave, we’re delighted that he’ll continue to be a key asset to the Midlothian business community, especially our social enterprises.
In his new position, Robbie will be leading the strategic development of The Growth Services at The Ventures Lab, led by The Challenges Group, a pioneering initiative that is reshaping how purpose-led enterprises access support. With over 25 years of global experience, The Challenges Group is now applying that expertise across Scotland, helping to build a strong pipeline of socially impactful ventures.
Through their innovative Growth Services model, The Ventures Lab provides high-quality business support in areas such as finance, legal, marketing, and business development, making these vital services more accessible and more impactful.
Robbie said: ‘I’m delighted to be taking on this new role at The Ventures Lab and excited that I will still be able to support some of the brilliant social enterprises and impact-led businesses based in Midlothian. I’ll continue to stay in touch with the Midlothian Council’s Economic Development Service to ensure purpose-led enterprises in the area can access the fantastic suite of support The Ventures Lab offers. This is certainly not goodbye, and I look forward to continuing to connect with Midlothian businesses and will always be a champion for them.’
