Our vision to is to have a wellbeing economy in Midlothian, driven by our Community Wealth Building approach. This will ensure a good quality of life for those who call Midlothian home, with access to whatever they need to be happy and healthy, while ensuring we protect and care for the planet.
To achieve a wellbeing economy, a partnership approach is critical to success. Our Community Planning Partnership actions for 2023-2027 are to develop and deliver a Midlothian wide Community Wealth Building Action Plan.
To protect and care for the planet we have developed the Midlothian Business Carbon Charter and the Midlothian Business Green Pledge. These support our local businesses to start their net zero journey as we journey towards Midlothian Council’s Net Zero 2030 goal and Scotland’s wider Net Zero 2045 targets.
The Economic Development Service supports business and investors that wish to locate in Midlothian by providing bespoke support based on their needs and aspirations. With expert knowledge of Midlothian and it’s economic landscape, the Midlothian Inward Investment Support Service can help you find suitable development sites or premises to meet your needs.
We also deliver the Business Gateway Midlothian service with a team of Advisers working with businesses at all stages of their lifecycle. Business Gateway Midlothian is your local point of access to the wider, national business support eco-system, supporting businesses in Midlothian.
The Visitor Economy has become ever more important since the Pandemic with more consumers choosing to ‘staycation’ and explore what’s on their doorstep. A key priority for Midlothian is to ensure that we improve and grow our tourism offer in a responsible and sustainable way and we work with local intermediary Midlothian Tourism Forum to ensure dedicated business support is accessible to this sector and to showcase the brilliant attractions, local hospitality and endless opportunities to get out and about in Midlothian.
