Assist the Cafe Manager in the day to day operational requirements of the kitchen including the basic food preparation, serving of all foods, serving customers, cleaning, maintenance and checking of equipment.
OBJECTIVES
Ensuring that all jobs and task undertaken comply with all health and safety legislation, quality
policies and procedures, food hygiene regulations, COSHH legislation and service operational procedures.
Maintain high standards of hygiene, have good communication skills and an interest in food
preparation.
In conjunction with, and under direction of the Cafe Manager, the post holder will undertake the
preparation of simple cooking and serving food including basic food preparation eg vegetables,
snacks etc.
Assistant in washing up, setting up and clearing away equipment and tables.
Cleaning of the kitchen, its surrounds and equipment.
To participate in the preparation of transported meals including the packing and loading of food containers and their unpacking and unloading.
The washing up of all cooking utensils, setting up and clearing away of catering equipment.
The duties in this job will include cash handling.
Operate the till to prescribed procedures including balancing the till at end of the day shift and
making up the till float.
Maintain stock levels of fresh and other produce, ordering for fresh produce daily, as required.
Complete and maintain accurate financial and stock records pertaining to the café
To ensure a high standard of hygiene operatives must comply with Health and Safety Regulations and legislative standards of cleanliness.
Removal of lifting all rubbish/recycling from cafe bins and kitchen bins into refuse sacks and
disposing of in correct outside waste units provided
Clean spills and food residue in the serving area to ensure a pleasant environment for customers
Manual handling of all delivery of stores from various suppliers into the appropriate storage rooms,
cupboards.
The duties of this job do not include any supervisory responsibility but does require assist/induct
and giving guidance to new staff.
Previous experience of working in a catering environment would advantageous; however, training
will be given on all tasks.
Supervise the café and associated areas to ensure good order and public safety.
Cater for special events if required. Reporting of faulty equipment to the Cafe Manager.
Carry out any other duties commensurate with the post as the job develops.
NB The postholder may be required to work in any of the Sport and Leisure Unit’s Centre locations
KNOWLEDGE
Experience in customer care is essential. Experience of working in a catering environment and the Elementary Food Hygiene Certificate is desirable, but full training will be given.
