Undertake work in Greenspace and other environments such as public and country parks, cemeteries, playing fields, road verges & paths, landscaped areas & similar open spaces and woodlands providing supervision for the work of staff assigned to them.
MAIN DUTIES:
Supervise and undertake general maintenance of Greenspace and other environments undertaking a range of horticultural and arboriculture tasks such as grass cutting, weeding, planting, hedge trimming, tree pruning, tree felling, clearing of leaves and litter, pitch lining using a range of tools and equipment, including hand tools and light plant. This will include the operation of tractor-mounted equipment such as gang mowers, side arm flails, aeration equipment, graders and tractor buckets.
Apply a full range of horticultural and tractor driving skills to the duties of the post.
Staff allocated to cemeteries, in addition to maintenance duties, will be required from data supplied to them to accurately mark out and dig ashes and full coffin lairs in a safe manner utilising shoring, mechanical and hand digging, assist in the conduct of funeral services in a dignified, respectful and professional manner supporting the bereaved family and undertakers as necessary, filling and back-filling the lair after service and assist in the erection of memorials, keeping and maintaining all necessary records in compliance with the Burial & Cremation (Scotland) Act 2016 and other regulations.
Work with minimal supervision and be responsible for the direction of trainees and staff assigned to them.
Staff allocated to construction activities, in addition to maintenance duties, will be required to undertake activities utilising craft skills such as interpretation of plans, site preparation and construction, soft and hard landscaping and setting out of pitches. Carry out constructional labouring work on paths & drainage, erection and dismantling of sports and other play equipment. Able to operate radio detection equipment to locate or mark services on site.
Supervise and undertake horticultural operations such as planting, pruning, and seeding, and where appropriate chemical control. Maintenance of artificial and synthetic pitches.
Take special responsibility for the inspection, reporting and remedial action required for the maintenance of fine and sports turf throughout the area using verbal and written communications.
Undertake loading and unloading of vehicles using mechanical aides and completing associated paperwork as required.

Understand and take responsibility for customer care.
To undertake cleaning of vehicles and plant and ensuring that the vehicle is roadworthy carrying out pre-use checks.
Carry out any other duties as requested by Team Leader or Senior Management.
KNOWLEDGE
Essential
Experience of supervising staff within a horticultural / greenkeeping / cemetery environment, full driving licence with two or more years tractor driving experience and operation of powered equipment connected to horticulture.
Desirable
SVQ level 2 in Horticulture / Greenkeeping with certificates for pesticide application, tractor operation, mini digger operation, stone cutting, chainsaw operation, ride-on and pedestrian machinery.
