Director, Rory Joyce

In 2023 Rory Joyce attended the Midlothian Council Meet the Buyer event. This event introduced local trades businesses to Midlothian Council’s Procurement and Building & Maintenance teams to hear about a planned tender for building works. Peter Joyce & Son were then a successful bidder in the tender process to provide building and maintenance services to Midlothian Council.

Director Rory Joyce said: ‘We have worked closely with Midlothian Council Economic Development Service and Business Gateway Midlothian for many years. Having them available to provide support and highlight opportunities has been invaluable to our business. The Meet the Buyer event was a catalyst in us securing a high value tender opportunity with Midlothian Council after meeting decision makers and outlining the vast array of services we can offer. I would highly recommend contacting the team to ensure your business is making the most of the brilliant free support services available from Midlothian Council’s Economic Development team.’

Local Apprenticeships

As the business has grown, Peter Joyce & Son have expanded their workforce, hiring local people for local jobs, and supporting the next generation and those looking to retrain by regularly hiring apprentices. They work closely with local social enterprise, The Energy Training Academy, as a trusted business providing industry placements for students of the academy, giving them hands on experience of work in smaller scale domestic and large-scale construction projects.

They currently have 4 apprentices working with them from the local area, providing both valuable experience and a supportive learning environment.

New Premises for Peter Joyce & Son

To support their expansion, Peter Joyce & Sons have moved into larger premises complete with a showroom for their customers. The former church on Hunterfield Road in Gorebridge will allow everyone in the business to operate from one space, create a commercial hub for the business, allow greater interaction with customers and offer in person appointments where customers can choose the plumbing solutions and products they would like instead of using an online brochure.

An opening ceremony for all staff was held on 3rd May to showcase the fantastic space to the whole team.
