Housed within the beautifully restored Lady Victoria Colliery in Newtongrange, widely regarded as the finest surviving Victorian colliery in Europe, the National Mining Museum Scotland offers a five star experience that brings Scotland’s coal mining heritage to life.
Across two floors of immersive exhibitions and interactive displays, visitors can explore the powerful story of coal in Scotland. Guided tours led by former miners provide a unique and authentic insight, allowing visitors to retrace the footsteps of the thousands of men and women whose lives were shaped by the industry.
The museum café is open daily from 10am, serving a range of speciality teas and coffees alongside sandwiches, paninis, toasties and freshly baked cakes.
The museum also offers a range of unique event spaces, ideal for meetings, workshops, weddings and special occasions, while an exciting year round programme ensures there is always something to enjoy, including family friendly activities, cinema screenings, pub quizzes, ghost tours, adult workshops, pantomimes, concerts and much more.
