As the weather turns warmer (fingers crossed!) and we have more sunshine (more fingers crossed!), May is a great time to get out and about in Midlothian to discover the range of events and activities on offer in our beautiful county.

Living Well in Central Dalkeith & Woodburn
Dalkeith Welfare Hall, 5th May, 12pm – 3.30pm
Interested in what’s happening in Woodburn and central Dalkeith? Then come along to Dalkeith Welfare Hall on Friday 5 May from noon to 3.30pm to meet new people and get involved in improving the local area.
There will be food, stalls and the chance to make new connections at the Living Well in Central Dalkeith and Woodburn Group event.
Full Moon Dinner
The Secret Herb Garden Café & Bistro, 5th May
Escape to the tranquil Secret Herb Garden for an evening under May’s Flower Moon to enjoy an exquisite 3 course meal with matched wines and mark the time when nature begins to blossom.
Dine with the spectacular rising full moon in a cosy candle lit atmosphere in their magical glasshouse.
Inception Art Show
Dalkeith Country Park, 4th – 14th May
Inception Art Show returns to Dalkeith Country Park. With an extended programme and impressive collection of sculptors, artists, photographers and painters exhibiting within Dalkeith Palace.
Events include Art & Supper with Richard Demarco, Artist-led Workshops, Curator & Palace Tours and a Charity Auction.
The Big Help Out Scotland
Across Midlothian, 8th May
To mark the King’s Coronation thousands of organisations across the country are getting together to give us all the chance to help out by volunteering in our own local communities.
Starting on Monday 8 May there will be opportunities for everyone to join, in for example you could check in on someone who needs company or volunteer for a charity. How you volunteer and how much time you donate is totally up to you – it could be an hour or a day.

Eurovision Final Party
Gorebridge Beacon, 13th May
If you’re still ‘Making Your Mind Up’ about how to celebrate this year’s Eurovision then this one is for you! Don your best Eurovision fancy dress and head along to Gorebridge Beacon for an evening of fabulous fun watching the final with lots of other fans!
Take along a food or drink item from one of the participating countries to be part of raffle hampers on the night to support Gorebridge’s Community Gardeners and don’t forget, it’s BYOB!
Plant Sale
Rosewell Steading, 13th May, 11am – 2pm
Head along to Rosewell Steading and join Rosewell Development Trust’s annual plant sale. A variety of plants will be on offer including vegetables, perennials and plants suitable for young gardeners.
All proceeds will help to maintain the sensory garden at The Steading. No tickets are necessary, simply head along to The Steading, Carnethie St, Rosewell EH24 9AA on Saturday the 13th May between 11am and 2pm.
Supper Club
One Dalkeith, every Thursday, 3.30pm – 8pm
The One Dalkeith Supper Club is open to everyone in the local community, allowing people to come together and self-direct/co-design activities and socialise over a meal freshly cooked by the community in the kitchen.
The Supper Club runs every Thursday and tickets are free (donations welcome). Snacks and refreshments are available from 3.30pm, a sewing class starts at 4.30pm and table tennis, pool and a Wii console are available along with arts and crafts and board games – plenty to keep everyone entertained! Supper is served at 5.30pm and you are welcome to pop in at any time during the evening.
Pentland Cycle Hire
An exciting new cycling centre has opened in Midlothian. Pentland Cycle Hire is giving locals and visitors the opportunity to explore Midlothian on two wheels.
Pentland Cycle Hire offers local, affordable and healthy options for people to hop on a bike and explore the spectacular scenery of Midlothian.
