A multi award-winning Midlothian country house, The Old Millhouse rose out of the rubble after a sensitive restoration by owner Sally De Waard.

The Dalkeith based house was originally built in 1803 but lay empty for years prior to its 2012 renovation.

Now a private residence, the Old Millhouse offers seasonal accommodation, on site fishing, bespoke food and drink experiences including use of a private chef, as well as use of its luxury swim spa in its ample gardens. The home away from home offers a high end urban-rural retreat in the heart of Dalkeith.

The business has grown from strength to strength, winning the Scottish Thistle Awards Best Self Catering Accommodation Experience in 2018, receiving of a five-star rating by Visit Scotland in 2019 – the first self-catering property in Midlothian to do so!

This has been possible with the dedication and careful eye of its owner, Sally, who has received Business Gateway Midlothian support throughout her journey. Hear more about it and see the impressive building and its grounds come to life by watching our video.
